To authentically portray Ani, Madison undertook extensive preparation. She immersed herself in the Brighton Beach neighborhood of Brooklyn, where much of the film is set, to practice her accent and familiarize herself with the culture depicted in the movie. Additionally, she engaged with the sex worker community, reading memoirs and studying texts such as Andrea Werhun’s Modern Whore.
In her acceptance speech, Madison stated, “This is a dream come true — I’m probably going to wake up tomorrow.” She expressed gratitude toward her director, family, and her movement consultant, Kennady Schneider, while highlighting the importance of the sex worker community in shaping her performance. “I will continue to support and be an ally. All of the incredible people, the women that I’ve had the privilege of meeting from that community has been one of the highlights of this entire incredible experience,” she added.
