DFC Arms delivers expert customization, hands-on education, and a welcoming environment for all firearm enthusiasts.
In 2017, a small moment sparked a journey that would reshape how Georgetown experiences firearms. Donavan and Michelle Decot’s daughter spotted a firearm coated in Robin’s Egg Blue and fell in love. Her excitement became the family’s mission. Determined to support her passion for competitive shooting, the Decots learned the craft of Cerakote finishes. What began as a project for a child soon transformed into DFC Arms, a veteran-owned, family-operated firearms shop that combines technical expertise with authentic care for its customers.
From Military Service to Mastery in Firearms
Both founders bring extensive military experience to their craft. Donavan served as an 82nd Airborne Paratrooper and earned his Air Assault wings while conducting sling-load operations with the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii. Michelle served as a U.S. Army Combat Medic. Their service instilled discipline, attention to detail, and a deep commitment to training and safety.
Today, they are factory-certified Cerakote applicators through NIC Industries in Oregon and certified laser engravers from San Antonio Laser Engraving. Their military background, paired with active competition shooting experience, ensures every customer receives advice, customization, and training rooted in real-world expertise.
Full-Spectrum Customization Under One Roof
DFC Arms provides everything a shooter needs in one location. From custom Cerakote finishes to laser engraving, vinyl stencils, and curated firearms and accessories, the shop delivers a complete experience. Each service is designed to balance aesthetics with functionality, creating firearms that reflect the owner’s identity and support their goals in competition, defense, or recreation.
Founder Donavan Decot emphasizes, “We do not create guns to look pretty alone. Our goal is to combine form with real-world function. Do not shoot ugly guns.” This commitment to both craftsmanship and practicality sets DFC Arms apart from other firearms retailers.
Welcoming Everyone in the Community
Unlike traditional gun shops, DFC Arms prioritizes a friendly and inclusive environment. Children are welcome, and the store maintains a customer-funded free-sucker program to ensure younger visitors feel included. Michelle Decot leads beginner-friendly classes, women-focused courses, and family-oriented education as a certified USCCA instructor. The shop meets customers where they are, empowering individuals to make confident decisions about firearms.
“Our goal is to listen first,” Decot says. “We guide people based on their experience and needs, not what we think is right.”
Family-Centered Operations
DFC Arms is a true family business. Donavan and Michelle involve their daughters, Stefani and Paige, in graphics, media, and shooting competitions. The family shoots together in IDPA matches and other competitive events, creating a business culture grounded in authenticity and connection. This approach turns customers into friends and encourages repeat visits from those seeking a personal touch that cannot be found in corporate shops.
Recognition and Reputation
DFC Arms was awarded as the Best Cerakote Service in Lexington KY of 2025 by Best of Best Reviews, acknowledging the shop’s expertise, welcoming culture, and exceptional service. Customers regularly highlight their professionalism and friendliness.
Rodney Maynard, a repeat client, shared, “I have bought my last three guns from this great shop and had two Cerakoted by them. They turned out fantastic. Highly recommended for a knowledgeable and friendly experience.” Another client, bmurphy 131, added, “Donovan and Michelle are wonderful. Family owned and both veterans. Excellent firearm services and accessories. I cannot recommend DFC Arms enough.”
Education and Empowerment
DFC Arms does not simply sell firearms. The shop provides hands-on education tailored to each customer’s level, from first-time gun owners to seasoned competition shooters. Classes focus on practical knowledge, safety, and confidence in firearm handling. Michelle emphasizes that empowering customers is as important as delivering high-quality products.
A Culture of Authenticity
Every interaction at DFC Arms reflects its core values: expertise, inclusivity, family, and authenticity. The shop greets every visitor, cultivates laughter and camaraderie, and builds long-term relationships. Donavan explains, “People come for the guns and stay for the community. Our customers become like family, and that is what makes DFC Arms unique.”
