Fanatics Fest NYC Opens During World Cup Final Weekend

Fanatics Fest NYC opened Thursday, July 16, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, beginning a four-day gathering that brings professional athletes, sports leagues, collectors, media personalities, brands, and fans together during one of New York’s busiest sports weekends of the year.

The festival runs through Sunday, July 19, coinciding with the final weekend of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Its timing has placed the event at the center of a wider celebration of sports, entertainment, collecting, and fan culture in the New York metropolitan area.

Opening-day tickets were sold out, reflecting strong demand for the expanded event. Organizers increased the festival to four days and added more convention space compared with the 2025 edition, which attracted more than 125,000 attendees. The previous event also featured hundreds of athletes, celebrities, collectors, hobby shops, and sports-card dealers.

The scale of the 2026 festival highlights how sports fandom increasingly extends beyond traditional games and competitions. Fanatics Fest combines live interviews, podcast recordings, autograph sessions, photo opportunities, interactive exhibits, merchandise launches, and a large sports-card and memorabilia marketplace.

Instead of concentrating on one league or sport, the festival includes basketball, football, baseball, soccer, tennis, professional wrestling, and other athletic categories. This wide-ranging format allows fans with different interests to participate in activities under one roof.

Thursday’s programming includes a live recording of “Mind the Game,” featuring LeBron James and guest host Tyrese Haliburton. The broader lineup announced for the weekend includes prominent athletes and sports figures such as Serena Williams, Tom Brady, David Beckham, Aaron Judge, Derek Jeter, Novak Djokovic, and Jalen Brunson.

The event also includes sports-business discussions involving athletes, executives, entrepreneurs, and media leaders. These sessions examine the commercial side of sports, including branding, technology, media, collectibles, and the changing relationship between professional organizations and their audiences.

A major feature of this year’s festival is its connection to the final weekend of the World Cup. Organizers planned soccer-related programming, press activities, and a live viewing event for Sunday’s championship match. The World Cup final is scheduled to take place at New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The tournament has generated considerable interest throughout the United States, drawing both longtime soccer supporters and viewers who do not regularly follow the sport. That attention has helped create a larger audience for sports-related events taking place around the championship weekend.

For New York City, Fanatics Fest adds another major attraction during a period already expected to bring large numbers of sports fans to the region. Visitors may attend the convention in Manhattan before traveling to New Jersey for World Cup activities and other events.

The gathering may also benefit hotels, restaurants, transportation providers, retailers, and nearby entertainment businesses. However, final attendance numbers and broader economic results will not be available until after the festival and World Cup events conclude.

Another important part of Fanatics Fest is the growing popularity of sports collectibles. Trading cards, signed merchandise, game-used equipment, and other memorabilia have become increasingly visible within mainstream sports culture.

At the festival, collectors can buy, sell, and trade items through participating dealers. Attendees can also explore product displays, card-focused activities, authentication services, and opportunities to meet athletes connected to particular teams or collectibles.

For visitors, advance planning is important because Fanatics Fest operates more like a large convention than a traditional sporting event. Activities take place across multiple stages and exhibition areas, while autograph sessions, brand displays, league installations, and collecting spaces operate throughout the venue.

Popular athlete appearances and limited-capacity programs may attract especially large crowds. Attendees are encouraged to review the event schedule, entry requirements, venue rules, and floor maps before arriving. They should also allow additional time for security procedures, transportation delays, and movement through busy convention areas.

The festival illustrates a broader shift within the sports industry. Fans increasingly expect year-round experiences that combine live entertainment, personal interaction, collecting, digital media, shopping, and cultural programming.

Professional leagues, athletes, media companies, and merchandise businesses are responding by creating events that allow supporters to engage with sports outside stadiums and scheduled competitions. These gatherings can deepen connections between fans and athletes while introducing visitors to sports they may not normally follow.

By opening during World Cup final weekend and featuring representatives from numerous sports, Fanatics Fest demonstrates how major sporting occasions can develop into wider cultural celebrations.

As the festival continues through Sunday, its success will depend on how effectively organizers manage crowds, schedules, athlete appearances, and the expanded venue. Its sold-out opening day and increased footprint already indicate strong public interest.

Together with the World Cup final, Fanatics Fest places the New York metropolitan area at the center of the American sports and entertainment conversation this weekend.
