Florida State University’s baseball and softball teams continued their impressive seasons with key in-state victories, solidifying their positions as top contenders in collegiate athletics. Both squads delivered strong performances against Florida rivals, showcasing their depth and resilience as they build momentum for conference play.
The Seminoles’ baseball team remained unbeaten with a hard-fought 6-4 victory over the University of Miami. A tense matchup saw both teams trade leads before Florida State’s offense came through in the later innings. A clutch two-run double by sophomore outfielder Jaime Ferrer in the eighth inning broke a 4-4 tie, sealing the Seminoles’ 16th consecutive win to open the season.
On the mound, left-hander Jackson Baumeister delivered a standout performance, striking out 10 batters over seven innings while allowing just three earned runs. The bullpen continued its strong start to the year, shutting down Miami’s offense in the final frames to preserve the win.
Meanwhile, Florida State’s softball team delivered another statement victory, overpowering the University of Central Florida with a commanding 10-1 triumph. The Seminoles wasted no time, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a three-run home run by junior outfielder Jahni Kerr.
Ace pitcher Allison Royalty was dominant in the circle, tossing a one-hit complete game while striking out nine. The Seminoles’ offense kept the pressure on, racking up 12 hits and forcing multiple defensive miscues from UCF. With the win, Florida State improved to 19-3, reinforcing their status as one of the top programs in the nation.
“These are the types of games that prepare us for the postseason,” said head softball coach Lonni Alameda. “Our team continues to grow, and I love the energy and focus they bring every game.”
With both programs firing on all cylinders, Florida State’s spring sports dominance is on full display. The baseball team looks to extend its perfect record as it heads into ACC play, while the softball team continues its push toward another Women’s College World Series run.
As the season progresses, the Seminoles have their sights set on championship contention, and their latest victories only add to the growing excitement surrounding both programs.
