East Georgia State College Launches New Bachelor of Business Administration Program
East Georgia State College (EGSC) has taken a significant step forward in higher education with the launch of its new Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree program. This move aims to empower students with the essential skills and knowledge required to excel in the ever-evolving world of business. As part of an expansion from the College’s popular Associate Degree in Business Administration, the BBA program allows students to complete their business education within the institution, eliminating the need for transfers to other colleges.
Meeting the Needs of Diverse Students
This new program caters to a wide range of learners, from traditional college students seeking to enhance their education to working professionals who wish to elevate their careers. An inspiring example of this is Amber O’Connor, the Director of Operations at the Greater Vidalia® Chamber. Amber decided to pursue further education after marrying, starting a family, and embarking on her career in the chamber.
Amber’s academic journey has been anything but conventional. She initially attended college to pursue a degree in education but soon realized that this path was not for her. Taking a break from her studies, she entered the workforce, eventually marrying her husband Chase and starting her role at the Greater Vidalia Chamber. Throughout this time, the idea of returning to school was a lingering thought, driven not just by personal ambition but also by the desire to set an example for her young daughter.
“I want to be able to tell my little girl one day that you can do it if you put your mind to it,” Amber expressed. “I also know that with this degree, I have the opportunity to make more money, which allows me to provide for her.”
Flexibility and Affordability
After exploring various programs, Amber discovered that EGSC offered an affordable option with the added advantage of flexibility through online classes. Balancing a full-time job, a young child, and a husband with a demanding travel schedule required a college program that could adapt to her life.
With encouragement from Natasha Goss, a business professor at EGSC, Amber made the pivotal decision to transfer to the college and pursue her Associate Degree in Business Administration. She remarked on the supportive environment at EGSC: “Every professor I have interacted with has been encouraging. They stay positive and give feedback that can make a huge difference.”
Amber successfully graduated with her Associate’s degree in December and eagerly chose to continue her education by enrolling in the Bachelor of Business Administration program at EGSC.
A New Chapter in Education
The launch of the BBA program has been met with enthusiasm, especially from students like Amber, who appreciate the continued flexibility and affordability. Amber admitted contemplating a break before deciding to advance her studies but recognized the challenge of resuming education after a hiatus.
Motivation from her young daughter and the support from faculty members like Professor Goss have played crucial roles in her decision to continue. “Seeing students like Amber return to school is incredibly rewarding,” Goss remarked.
The Value of a Business Degree
The Bachelor of Business Administration program at EGSC is intricately designed to prepare students for various business and management roles. Offering concentrations in financial technology, healthcare administration, office administration and technology, film and television post-production, and data science, the program emphasizes relevance and adaptability to industry demands.
One key feature of the BBA program is its focus on internships, providing students with valuable hands-on experience. Goss explained that "internships bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world application," allowing students to develop professional skills, build industry connections, and gain a deeper understanding of their chosen fields.
Faculty Expertise and Support
EGSC’s experienced faculty bring real-world insights into the classroom, enriching the educational experience for students. They encourage practical learning through projects, case studies, and internships. Additionally, the college offers career services to aid students with resume development, interview preparation, and internship placements.
Amber’s experience reflects the supportive culture at EGSC. “Professor Natasha Goss has helped me immensely,” she shared. “It means a lot to have someone so supportive on the college side encouraging me to continue in the bachelor’s program.”
