GM Issues Major Recall for Full-Size Trucks and SUVs
General Motors (GM) has announced a significant recall affecting 597,630 of its full-size trucks and SUVs in the United States. The recall is due to potential issues with the V8 engines that may fail unexpectedly, thereby increasing the risk of accidents.
Details of the Recall
The recall stems from manufacturing defects in the connecting rod and crankshaft components of the engines, which could lead to severe engine damage or failure without any prior warning, as detailed in documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Investigation by U.S. Safety Regulators
This recall follows an investigation launched by U.S. auto safety regulators due to reports of engine failures in GM vehicles, including the popular Silverado model. Previously, the NHTSA had noted an inquiry affecting an estimated 877,710 vehicles after receiving numerous complaints regarding engine issues linked to L87 V8 engines.
Affected Models
The recall includes the following models equipped with V8 engines:
- 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV
- Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe
- GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL
