Kalamazoo Weather Update: Latest News, Forecasts, Sports, And Breaking Stories

Lake Effect Snow Develops This Evening; Frigid Start to the Week; Will Tracks Lake Effect Snow at 6:30 PM!

Today: It’s a cloudy and breezy day across West Michigan, with occasional snow showers making their presence known. Many areas should expect a light dusting, with a coating to 1 inch of snow leading into the evening. The temperature is hovering in the upper 20s, but don’t let that fool you! Winds from the north-northwest at 15-25 mph, along with stronger gusts at times, will make it feel much colder.

Tonight: As the sun sets, temperatures will drop significantly, bringing a colder and breezier night. Lake effect snow showers are expected to kick into high gear this evening, particularly near and west of US-131. As a result, areas could see another 1 to 2 inches of snow accumulate. With nighttime lows plunging to the lower teens and wind chills dipping below zero, it’s crucial to bundle up before heading outdoors. A steady wind from the west-northwest at 10-20 mph will contribute to the frigid feel of the night ahead.

Monday: Start the week off right—with a cold embrace! Monday will bring a continuation of cloudy skies and breezy conditions. Scattered lake effect snow showers are likely, particularly in the morning. Expect the temperature to peak in the middle teens, while the wind chill could plummet below zero at times. Winds will shift to the west at 15-20 mph, adding an extra bite to the air.

Tuesday: The cold snap carries into Tuesday, characterized by mainly cloudy skies with the possibility of a few light lake effect snow showers. The high temperature will again only crawl into the middle teens, while winds will be milder from the northwest at 5-10 mph. If you were hoping for a winter respite, it’s not quite here yet.

Wednesday: Midweek brings a slight uptick in temperatures, but it will still be chilly. Expect cloudy skies with occasional snow showers throughout the day. The high is forecasted to be near 20 degrees. Winds will remain light from the west-northwest at 5-10 mph, but don’t let that fool you—layering up is still a must!

Winter Weather Advisory: As a reminder, all of West Michigan is under a winter weather advisory through 7 PM Sunday. Snow is currently falling across the region, leading to slick and snow-covered roads. For those on the roads, please remember to drive cautiously in these wintry conditions. A buildup of 1 to 2 inches of snow is expected, with the heaviest accumulations further east.

As the day transitions into night, northwest winds will pick up, ushering in colder air and enhancing lake effect conditions. Meteorologist Will Haenni is on hand to track these developments live. Tune into News Channel 3 at 6:30 PM for live updates and forecasts!
