Pearl star Mia Goth has joined the high-sailing cast of Christopher Nolan’s latest movie project, The Odyssey.
The all-star Universal Pictures production is an adaptation of the Greek epic poem by Homer and has bold-faced names Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie and Jon Bernthal on the manifest.
And while some roles could just be for a key scene (Nolan loves to populate even the smallest of supporting roles with powerhouse thespians), sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Goth’s role may not even involve speaking at all. So what does it entail?
Homer’s poem tells of the Greek hero King Odysseus and his tortuous, 10-year journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. It is a journey filled with interruptions and influence from the gods (not to mention a few Cyclopes). The story also involves Odysseus’ wife and grown son, who must contend with aggressive suitors that have designs on the throne.
Nolan keeps all details at the bottom of the hull, but as far as Goth goes, there are a few options of who she could be silently playing. One is a siren, the human-like creature with an enchanting voice that beguiled sailors to their watery death. In the story, Odysseus bound himself to a mast in order to resist the sirens’ call. Another possibility is that Goth could be playing a goddess or even a statue. Universal had no comment.
Goth last starred in MaXXXine, Ti West’s finale of his horror trilogy he wrote and directed for A24.
Universal has set a July 17, 2026, release date for the feature, with production getting underway in locales worldwide later this month.
