Natalie Portman Expresses Interest in Returning to Star Wars

Natalie Portman, who portrayed the iconic Queen Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, recently shared her willingness to return to the beloved role if the opportunity presents itself. In a candid interview for GQ’s Actually Me series, Portman revealed that while she hasn’t been contacted about any upcoming Star Wars projects, she would be open to reprising her role.

“I have no information on [future Star Wars movies]. No one’s ever asked me to return,” Portman, 41, stated. “But I’m open to it.” Despite the absence of official conversations about her involvement, her openness to return has reignited fans’ hopes of seeing Padmé Amidala once again in the Star Wars galaxy.

Fans Push for Padmé’s Return

Though Padmé’s tragic death in Revenge of the Sith marked the end of her storyline in the prequels, fans continue to advocate for her return in some form. Many believe her character, with her vital role in the larger Star Wars saga, deserves a more fitting exploration. One fan commented on a Reddit post, saying, “Any chance that Padmé/Natalie Portman would return to Star Wars? Her character really deserves it with the way she was treated in Revenge of the Sith & overall importance for the OT story.”

The vast and ever-expanding Star Wars universe leaves room for multiple possibilities for Padmé’s return, including through flashbacks, alternate timelines, or even an exploration of her earlier years. Fans continue to speculate on how Portman’s character might be reintroduced into the franchise, and the idea of her return has sparked considerable excitement online.

Portman’s Iconic Costumes and Fun Behind-the-Scenes Moments

While Portman’s possible return to the Star Wars franchise remains uncertain, she did share some fond memories from her time on set. One particularly humorous moment involved Anakin Skywalker’s (played by Hayden Christensen) iconic braid. Portman admitted to taking one of Anakin’s braids as a souvenir but revealed that it was eventually lost. “The costume design was amazing,” Portman recalled. “From the second film, I took one of Anakin’s braids. He had that little, like, braid hanging down. But then I lost it, so that’s not very helpful.”

These lighthearted anecdotes show a fun side to Portman, reflecting on her time in the Star Wars universe with affection.

Other Cast Members Returning to the Franchise

Portman’s potential return comes at an exciting time for the Star Wars franchise, as other beloved characters are set to make a comeback. Daisy Ridley, who played Rey in the sequel trilogy, was confirmed to return for an upcoming Star Wars film that takes place after Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. The movie, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, will focus on Rey’s journey to rebuild the Jedi Order 15 years after the Skywalker saga.

If Portman were to return as Padmé, it would add another layer to the Star Wars legacy, intertwining the past with the present in the expansive universe. Although no official plans have been made yet, the prospect of seeing Padmé again is something many fans are excited to imagine.

Looking Toward the Future of Star Wars

While Portman has yet to be approached for a Star Wars return, her openness to the idea leaves the door open for future possibilities. With the franchise expanding across film, television, and other media, fans may one day see Padmé Amidala reappear, either through new adventures or a deeper exploration of her past.

As Star Wars continues to evolve, the question remains whether Padmé’s story will be revisited or if Portman will be part of fresh new narratives in this legendary galaxy. For now, fans continue to cherish her portrayal of the strong, influential queen who played a critical role in the Star Wars prequel trilogy and remains a beloved figure in the franchise.
