In a landmark move to expand its global reach, the NFL has announced a major increase in its international games for the 2025 season. For the first time in league history, the NFL will feature games in three different countries outside of the United States, marking a significant step forward in the league’s ongoing efforts to grow the sport globally.
The 2025 season will see the NFL host four regular-season games in London, two in Germany, and one in Mexico, as part of an enhanced international schedule. The London games, which have been a staple of the NFL’s global expansion efforts since 2007, will be played at both Wembley Stadium and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, continuing the long-standing tradition of bringing American football to British fans. This year, the league will also add two new cities to the international rotation, with games scheduled for Frankfurt, Germany, and Mexico City, expanding the league’s footprint in Europe and Latin America.
“This expansion of our international series represents a new chapter for the NFL,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell during a press conference. “Our global fan base has been growing exponentially, and we are excited to bring the excitement of the NFL to new cities and new fans around the world. This is just the beginning of a broader vision to continue growing American football internationally.”
The announcement comes on the heels of record-breaking viewership for the NFL’s international games in recent years, particularly in the United Kingdom, where the games have attracted sell-out crowds and millions of television viewers. With European markets like Germany seeing increasing enthusiasm for the sport, the NFL is positioning itself to tap into these expanding fan bases with more frequent matchups on international soil.
As part of this expansion, the NFL is also set to introduce a new program to help grow the grassroots level of American football in these international markets. The league plans to partner with local organizations to host youth clinics, training camps, and other community-focused events aimed at building a stronger football culture overseas.
The 2025 international schedule marks an ambitious step in the NFL’s global strategy. By increasing the number of games abroad, the league is not only broadening its fan base but also solidifying American football as a truly international sport. As the NFL continues to push for a global presence, these international games will likely become a permanent fixture in the league’s calendar for years to come.
