Project Mobility: Empowering Independence Through Adaptive Bike Giveaways and Cycling Events for Children and Veterans with Disabilities, Autism, or Cancer

Project Mobility is transforming lives by providing adaptive bikes to individuals with disabilities, offering freedom and new possibilities.

Project Mobility, founded by siblings Hal Honeyman and Tammy Simmons, is transforming lives by providing adaptive bikes to children, veterans, and individuals with disabilities, autism, or cancer. The nonprofit was inspired by Hal’s son Jacob, who was born prematurely and as a result has cerebral palsy. Determined to break mobility barriers Hal discovered the life-changing impact of adaptive bikes, which led to the creation of Project Mobility, offering recipients the gift of freedom, independence, and new possibilities.

Transforming Lives, One Bike at a Time

For many children and veterans, receiving an adaptive bike from Project Mobility is their first taste of true independence — the joy of pedaling freely, wind in their hair, and confidence at every turn. These bikes restore dignity, build self-esteem, and open doors to social inclusion.

For children with disabilities, autism, or cancer an adaptive bike is more than fun — it’s a way to connect with peers, develop motor skills, and belong. “For kids like Jacob, an adaptive bike isn’t just a toy,” says co-founder Tammy Simmons. “It’s a tool for freedom, growth, and connection.”

The Heart and Soul of Project Mobility

Project Mobility is more than just a nonprofit focused on providing adaptive bikes—it’s about empowerment and building community. Founded by Hal and Tammy the organization connects families, veterans, and individuals with disabilities to resources that help them thrive. Guided by empathy, inclusion, and resilience, Project Mobility offers custom bikes and hosts events that foster shared joy and a sense of belonging for everyone involved.

Born from the Honeyman family’s personal journey with Hal’s son, Jacob, Project Mobility has grown into a powerful force for change. Hal emphasizes, “every bike we give away represents a step forward, not just for the individual, but for the entire community.” What started with Jacob has evolved into a mission that’s impacting countless lives.

NEW EVENT — Milwaukee, Wisconsin – October 29, 2025

Over the Edge — Wisconsin

This fall, Project Mobility takes fundraising to new heights with Over the Edge in Milwaukee – giving participants the chance to rappel down a high-rise or tall building while raising money for adaptive bikes. The $500 fundraising minimum includes safety gear, expert instruction, a pre-event briefing, and professional photos to capture the moment. Go solo, join a team, or rally coworkers for an unforgettable day.

Every dollar raised turns courage on the building’s edge into freedom, independence, and joy for children, veterans, and others with disabilities.

Everybody Rides — June 2026 (Date TBD)

For 13 years, Project Mobility’s Everybody Rides has brought riders, families, and supporters together for a bike ride fundraiser and “Party in the Park.” While this year’s event has wrapped, our 2026 date is set for June.

Thanks to presenting sponsor Ivy Academy and Freedom Concepts, we have gifted an adaptive bike valued at $5,000–$6,000 to give away during the event. This year’s Facebook contest for the giveaway reached over 1 million views, inspiring our current mission to raise $35,000 so every child who participated — not just the winner — receives their own adaptive bike.

Adaptive Bike Giveaway Programs

Our Adaptive Bike Giveaway Program also includes the Holiday Adaptive Bike Giveaway. We recently delivered the final bikes at The New Squire Ale House during our “Let’s Find the Queen” raffle, creating unforgettable moments for children and families. These events are more than celebrations — they’re life-changing experiences that give the gift of mobility and independence.

The Power of Corporate Sponsorship

Project Mobility thrives on a network of community and business partners. While major sponsors fund many adaptive bikes, local “mom-and-pop” shops play a vital role — donating raffle items, displaying event flyers, and spreading the word.

“These partnerships create a ripple effect,” says Tammy Simmons. “Whether it’s a national sponsor or the shop on the corner, they’re changing lives and giving someone the chance to experience the world in a new way.”

How You Can Help: Build the Legacy

Project Mobility thrives on the support of individuals, volunteers, and corporate sponsors dedicated to improving the lives of those with disabilities. The organization invites partners and supporters to help expand its impact by attending events, sponsoring bikes, or making donations. Events like The Long Table Dinner, Hops for Hope, and Everybody Rides are both fun and meaningful, uniting people to support a life-changing cause. Founded in 2002, Project Mobility, led by Hal Honeyman and Tammy Simmons, has pioneered adaptive cycling and expanded its reach over the years, including championing the cause at the White House and hosting rides for wounded veterans. With each new partner and supporter, the nonprofit continues to grow, bringing the gift of mobility and independence to more individuals.
