Rebecca Wisocky Explores Character’s Heritage in CBS’s ‘Ghosts’

Rebecca Wisocky, known for her role as Hetty Woodstone in CBS’s popular comedy series “Ghosts,” recently shared insights about her character’s unexpected heritage and the show’s bright future following its renewal for another two seasons.

Character Revelations and Plot Developments

In a recent interview on “CBS Mornings,” Wisocky revealed a pivotal moment from a recent episode where her character, previously dismissive of Irish culture, learns about her own Irish ancestry. This twist delivers a striking narrative arc, as Hetty experiences a profound transformation.

“This kind of character is best when she gets her comeuppance, when she’s proven wrong,” Wisocky explained. “She does a Woodstone 180 on this one. That was her horror, to discover that she was Irish. And of course now she’s embraced and become a hibernophile.”

Interestingly, Wisocky had hinted at this story development earlier in a prior appearance, suggesting that Hetty should be revealed as Irish. To her surprise, this narrative choice came to fruition, showcasing the writers’ knack for creating engaging character conflicts.

Performance Insights and Personal Connections

When discussing her portrayal of Hetty, Wisocky emphasized her unique vocal approach: “I approach work in a musical way. The way her voice is written and the cadence and the way she changes her mind in the middle of a sentence, it seemed obvious that she would have this voice that would go all these different places.”

During the interview, Wisocky also adorned a meaningful shamrock brooch—her father’s first gift to his mother roughly 70 years ago. “I think this is the first time I’ve worn it,” she shared, highlighting its sentimental value.

Show’s Success and Viewer Engagement

“Ghosts” has garnered positive reception, with CBS and Paramount+ confirming the show’s continuation for two more seasons. Wisocky expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from the network and the audience.

“It’s laugh-out-loud funny, but you can have interesting, sensitive conversations about deeper themes on the show, so we’re real proud of that,” Wisocky stated, underscoring the show’s multifaceted appeal.

Viewing Information

“Ghosts” airs Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. EST on CBS.
