‘RHONJ’ Reunion: Jackie Goldschneider Speaks Out on Dolores Catania’s Use of Weight Loss Drug Mounjaro

by Today US Contributor

Jackie Goldschneider’s Concerns Over Weight Loss Drugs

During part 2 of The Real Housewives of New Jersey season 13 reunion, Jackie Goldschneider didn’t hold back in addressing her co-star Dolores Catania’s admission that she had been using the weight loss drug Mounjaro. Jackie, 46, expressed her concerns about the potential dangers of using such medications and the impact they could have on long-term health.

“I don’t think it’s a bad thing to want to lose weight,” Jackie began, setting the tone for her discussion on the topic. “But the problem is that one day people might have to stop using these medications, and when they do, studies show that they tend to gain all the weight back very quickly.”

Having opened up about her own struggles with anorexia in the past, Jackie added a more personal perspective to the conversation. “People are addicted to being thin, and when the medications stop working, they might find themselves looking for other, potentially dangerous ways to maintain their weight.” Her words resonated with the audience, as they highlighted the risks associated with the pressure to stay thin and the potential cycle of unhealthy habits that weight loss drugs could foster.

Dolores Catania’s Admission

Dolores, 52, had previously confessed that she had turned to Mounjaro earlier that year, prior to the reunion taping, to lose weight. She explained that her decision to use the drug was motivated by the desire to feel confident when facing her co-stars and the cameras. “I wasn’t going to come to the reunion looking any bigger than anyone else,” Dolores confessed, echoing the pressures that come with being in the public eye.

Mounjaro, which is primarily used to treat diabetes, has gained attention for its off-label use as a weight loss medication. It’s similar to other drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy, which have also garnered attention for their weight loss effects. Dolores mentioned that one of the primary side effects she experienced was a lack of hunger, which contributed to her weight loss.

Jackie’s Concerns About Weight Loss Medications

While Jackie acknowledged that weight loss can be a valid and personal goal, she raised important concerns about the long-term effects of using weight loss drugs. “The issue isn’t necessarily wanting to lose weight, but what happens when you stop using these medications?” she questioned. She voiced fear that the sudden cessation of weight loss treatments could lead people to return to unhealthy habits or continue their obsession with thinness.

Jackie’s comments come at a time when there is growing awareness and debate over the use of medications like Mounjaro for weight loss, especially in the context of reality TV, where body image and appearance are often under scrutiny.

Jackie’s Personal Journey and Memoir

In addition to addressing weight loss drugs, Jackie also shared insights into her own personal journey with body image and eating disorders. She revealed that during the filming of season 13, she was still in the early stages of recovery from anorexia. As a result, she made the decision to participate as a part-time “friend” of the Housewives to prioritize her health.

Jackie also opened up about working on her memoir, The Weight of Beautiful, which is set to release in September. The book chronicles her journey through recovery, and Jackie shared that writing it had been an important part of her healing process.

“I was only a few months into recovery when we were talking about casting,” Jackie explained. “I had gained a lot of weight in a short period, and I didn’t feel good about myself. Being part-time gave me the space I needed to focus on my recovery and write my book, which was really important for me.”

The Reunion Drama Continues

As the Real Housewives of New Jersey reunion continues, the conversation around weight loss drugs and body image remains at the forefront. Viewers will have to tune in to the final part of the reunion on June 13 to see how the rest of the Housewives react to Jackie’s concerns and Dolores’ controversial decision to use Mounjaro.

The emotional and often difficult discussion on body image, mental health, and the pressures of weight loss is sure to continue as the season wraps up, with Jackie and Dolores at the center of the conversation.
