Ray & Mascari Inc. has recalled four-count packages of Vine Ripe tomatoes sold through Gordon Food Service Stores across several states, including:
- New York
- Illinois

- Pennsylvania

- Kentucky
- Missouri
- Mississippi

This action followed notification from Hanshaw & Caping Farms, which identified potential salmonella presence in a batch of tomatoes at their facility.
Health Risks Associated with Salmonella
Salmonella infection can lead to various symptoms, including:
- Fever
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
Though no illnesses linked to the recalled tomatoes have been reported, salmonella can cause severe illness, particularly in vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
The FDA recommends that consumers dispose of the affected tomatoes or return them if still unopened.
