Samsung Launches Galaxy Z Fold 7 with Industry-Leading Repairable Battery

by Today US Contributor

Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy Z Fold 7, its most advanced foldable yet, featuring user-replaceable batteries and enhanced durability.

At the Unpacked event on July 9, Samsung highlighted the new 4,272 mAh battery that retains at least 80% capacity even after 2,000 charge cycles, signaling a move toward longevity and sustainability. Users can now replace the battery themselves—a first for the Fold series—while keeping the slim design intact.

Durability has been addressed with an IP48 rating, shielding the device from water (up to 1.5 m for 30 mins) and solid particles over 1 mm. Samsung also included an upgraded Armor FlexHinge and tougher Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, achieving a Class A drop rating. However, repairability remains average with a Class C score (approximately 2.9), according to European Union energy ratings.

The Fold 7 pairs its sustainability focus with significant hardware upgrades: a sleek 4.2 mm unfold thickness, 215 g weight, 8‑inch AMOLED main display with 120 Hz refresh, 6.5‑inch cover screen, Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, and up to 16 GB RAM. On the camera front, it boasts a 200 MP main sensor along with ultrawide and telephoto lenses.

Battery endurance is solid—early testing shows around 40 hours of general use, with video playback nearing 24 hours. However, battery capacity remained largely unchanged and charging is capped at 25 W wired.

Tech reviewers praise the Fold 7 as Samsung’s most refined foldable, combining a slim build with robust performance and improved resilience. The main compromises lie in battery size and lack of S Pen support, sacrificed for its sleeker profile.

Samsung’s move to modular, user-replaceable batteries in its flagship foldable marks a notable shift in device sustainability and lifecycle management. Combined with its durable construction and performance upgrades, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 sets a new standard for premium foldables—while acknowledging that repairability still has room to improve.
