Residents of Boca Chica, a small community in South Texas, have officially established a new city named Starbase. In a recent vote, 212 out of 218 participants expressed their support for the incorporation, as reported by Cameron County authorities. Out of 283 eligible voters, this overwhelming decision reflects the residents’ commitment to shaping their community in alignment with the operations of SpaceX.
SpaceX’s Influence in the Region
SpaceX has played a pivotal role in the development of Boca Chica, breaking ground in the area in 2014. The site has since become the primary launch location for the company and a residential area for many of its employees. Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, has described his low-cost home in Boca Chica, stating, “My primary home is literally a ~$50k house in Boca Chica / Starbase that I rent from SpaceX,” emphasizing his connection to the community.

The petition to form Starbase highlighted a close-knit community of approximately 500 residents, predominantly composed of SpaceX employees and their families.
