Frito-Lay Issues Recall for Tostitos Tortilla Chips Due to Allergens
Frito-Lay has announced a recall affecting specific 13-ounce bags of Tostitos Cantina Traditional Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips over concerns of potential contamination with undeclared milk allergens. The issue arises because some bags might erroneously contain nacho cheese tortilla chips, which include dairy products not listed on the packaging.
Details of the Recall
The company stated in a press release, shared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, that the affected chips pose a risk, particularly to individuals with dairy allergies or sensitivities.
Safety Assurance
Despite the recall, Frito-Lay has reassured consumers that the product remains safe for consumption by those without milk-related allergies or intolerances. To date, no reports of allergic reactions have been linked to the recalled product, according to the company’s statement released earlier this week.
Scope and Affected Regions
Approximately 1,300 bags are implicated in the recall. A comprehensive list of affected lot numbers can be found on the FDA’s website. The chips in question were distributed across 13 states, including:
- Alabama
- Florida
- Georgia
- Illinois
- Indiana
- Kentucky
- Mississippi
- North Carolina
- Ohio
- South Carolina
- Tennessee
- Virginia
- West Virginia
The chips were available for purchase as early as March 7, prior to the recall announcement on March 27.
Exclusions from the Recall
It is important to note that this recall does not affect any other Tostitos products, including different flavors, bag sizes, or variety packs, as specified by Frito-Lay.
